advice on which valves to purchase for piped installation (central heating)

• This heated towel rail is not supplied with valves, as we have such a vast selection of styles & colours to choose from, we do not include them (like some other retailers) as we cannot make this choice on your behalf.
• However, we make choosing the correct valves very easy for you. With our years of experience, we know once homeowners have chosen their rail, the valve selection process can be a little daunting — and even the plumber won't make the best choice for you in terms of aesthetics. You need to do this yourself, as remember you are left looking at the installation once the plumber has gone - often we have spoken to homeowners who have been disappointed with how the poor valve choice or absence of pipes & covers have let down the look - don't let this be you.
• NOTE: The valve shown in the main images is the integrated valve with immersion tube which is flow and return on the same side of the radiator and has 50mm con connections into the wall. This is more used for dual fuel - but shown here as a variant option.
• On the right-hand side of this page we have pre-filtered our vast selection of valves to show you only the optimal valves for this specific model — easy — you'll see two sections of valves:
  • 1. matching/complementary colour valve & pipe sets — these could be an exact match (as they are painted using the same paint as the radiators) or the closest complementary match (dependent on whether we list valves in the exact matching paint here on our site). Note: If you don't see an exact match but specifically want one, please contact us — we'll likely be able to special order these for you. These valves come complete with pipes and wall covers which will conceal the standard copper or plastic pipes of your central heating system for a much more professional looking finish.
  • 2. standard valve & pipe sets — these are more economical standard valves which are not painted using the same paints as the radiators, so will never match. We show the closest colour only. These are not sold as sets; if you'd like pipes/covers, these need to be purchased separately.
• which orientation of valves do I need : 3-Axis (corner), straight or angled?
  • 1. your central heating pipework comes through the wall — typically most modern pipework comes through the wall now and for this you'll need 3-axis corner valves. If your pipework is not yet in - our best advice is to ask your plumber to bring this through the wall.
  • 2. your central heating pipework comes through the floor — this is less common and only found in more period properties - for this you'll need straight valves - as these valves are less common we don't offer these as full sets; you'll need to view the valves section for all available straight options.
  • Note: Finally angled valves are not a good match for any heated towel rail (as the valve head will stick forward at the bottom), so we do not show any angled valves on the product pages for heated towel rails.

what is dual fuel and advice on what accessories to purchase if installing as dual fuel

• Dual Fuel means this towel rail can run on two energy supplies — central heating in the winter, and electric in the summer when the central heating system is typically off, but you can still run this towel rail on its own... for fluffy warm towels after a shower or to quickly dry clothes on it.
  
• Buying all the components needed for dual fuel can be complicated, but we have simplified this for you. On the right-hand side of this page you'll see the recommended matching dual fuel accessories section where we have pre-filtered the optimal accessories you need to purchase with this specific rail.
• In essence, you need both a heating element and a set of dual fuel valves:
• heating element: optimal models to pair with this rail in terms of colour and style are displayed. You simply need to purchase the correct wattage for this specific rail, which is listed in the data attributes section on the right-hand side under "Wattage of element (if to be installed as dual fuel)".
• Note: Only choose the wattage we show - do not increase it, as with our experience we've often seen people think to do this for higher heat, but doing this will not give more heat - it will simply cause the element to cycle on and off faster, reducing its lifespan as it will be overpowered for the size of the rail.
• dual fuel valve: For the neatest installation, the UNICO Integrated Valve with Immersion Tube is recommended; as no T-piece* is required for this. These could be an exact match (as they are painted using the same paint as the radiators) or the closest complementary match (dependent on whether we list valves in the exact matching paint here on our site). Note: If you don't see an exact match but specifically want one, please contact us — we'll likely be able to special order these for you.
• Note: You'll see we have left or right sided valves - well think about which side of the rail your electric supply (the fused spur) will be for the heating element, as you'll want your valve to be on the opposite side to this, so the element has the shortest run of cable to the electric supply.
• Note: *For dual fuel — standard valves need to be installed with a T Piece which can look quite cumbersome. See the guide below for more info on this.
