Description

Here at the heat is on, we put the knowledge of what you need directly in your hands as the homeowner, so you needn’t ask or wait for information from your tradesmen. Here we give you complete expert guidance for this dual fuel towel rail — supplying all parts required — so you can ensure a smooth and successful installation when your tradesman arrives - note for dual fuel you may need both an electrician and plumber which is why you are best place to know what you need yourself in the case of dual fuel.

heat output

  • Firstly, if you haven't already done so - use our heat calculator to work out your specific requirements for your room to ensure you are looking at the right size heated towel rail.
  • As this is a dual fuel model you would work this out twice - once for central heating and then again for electric to ensure the respective outputs this rail gives match both requirements - use the central heating as the lead source and just closest match the electric output.

  • These are state of the art dual fuel towel rails provided with the very best specialist dual fuel items for a high end looking finish - as often dual fuel installations can look cumbersome in comparison to this.
  • You will receive all items as seen in the main images which includes:
    • ZIG ZAG heated towel rail
    • TWINS specialist 50mm valve
    • KTX 4 BLUE (bluetooth controlled) heating element

what is a dual fuel towel rail?

  • Dual fuel means you can run the same towel rail in two ways — as electric via the use of a heating element in the summer (when you may only want to dry your towels or clothes) and as central heating in the winter (when the full system is on).
  • The water inside the towel rail comes from your central heating system as normal — when the main system is off this water will sit idle, and in the summer the element installed in the towel rail will warm the water located inside just this towel rail. You can keep both of the valves open.
  • If you want to learn more about dual fuel, read our dedicated dual fuel towel rail guide here.

the heated towel rail

  • ZIG ZAG makes a striking first impression and brings positive, uplifting energy to any interior.
  • Its distinctive shape, everyday functionality and wide choice of colours make it an ideal option for creating a truly individual bathroom design.
  • A genuine Terma original, ZIG ZAG features horizontal bars set at an angle, allowing towels to be placed easily over the top bar.
  • The chunky square-profile bars pair perfectly with modern, linear bathroom accessories.
  • With brackets positioned on the uprights, the main design area remains clean and unobstructed.
  • ZIG ZAG works best as a bathroom focal point, adding a bold and contemporary designer touch.
  • Made from low carbon mild steel.

the specialist dual fuel valve

  • The TWINS valves and pipe masking set from Terma comprise:
    • 50mm integrated thermostatic valve body and head
    • 2x 50mm length pipes
    • 1x wall masking cover with 2 holes
  • Made from coloured plastic, brass, and steel for durability and strength.

the heating element

  • The KTX 4 BLUE is a detachable controller which powers the TS1 probe (sold separately), forming a complete and reliable heating element and allowing easy maintenance and replacement of the probe without removing the entire unit.

element specifics

  • Compact dimensions: 82.5mm length from thread down and 67mm wide square-shaped face.
  • IPx5 rated, making it safe for use in bathroom environments.
  • Class 1 device meeting electrical safety requirements.
  • Lot20 Eco-design Directive compliant, with adaptive start control for efficient energy use.

controls & operation

  • Provides a choice of internal temperature regulation (30°C to 60°C) or ambient room temperature regulation (15°C to 30°C).
  • Regulates the internal temperature and displays this clearly on the integrated screen.
  • Includes a 7-day timer for flexible scheduling of heating cycles and energy efficiency.
  • Features a 2-hour drying function for convenient towel or laundry drying.
  • Features four easy-to-use buttons: Power, Drying Function, and Temperature + / -.
  • Offers full operational control via smartphone or tablet through Bluetooth connection, compatible with the Terma BLUE-Line App for iOS and Android devices.
  • On-device and remote control options give users flexibility and convenience.

standard option vs. masking option

  • You can choose to buy this element with or without the masking cover on the rear.
  • The masking cover conceals the wire up to the entry point into the wall, providing a neater, tidier appearance.
  • Important note: Masking requires the wall to be trowelled out; if walls or tiles are already finished, the standard (non-masking) option is recommended.
  • Masking length varies between 52mm and 65mm according to technical drawings.
  • The control head adds 42mm depth in front of the masking.
  • This means the radiator’s “wall to centre of inlet” figure must be between 93mm (52+41) and 108mm (66+41) for the masking cover to fit.
  • If the entry point is deeper than this range, the masking cover cannot be fitted.

straight cable vs. spiral cable

  • If your electric supply is very close to the towel rail the spiral cable option will keep the cable tight and coiled. See the demo images to see the straight vs. spiral.
  • As this item is made to order you can configure it exactly as you'd like it to be made for you.

colour & finish

  • Heated Towel Rail is Painted in Brass (premium wet paint).
  • Finished in a metallic, smooth texture.
  • This is a premium wet paint, applied using a hand-finished liquid process (as opposed to an automated powder paint). This creates a deeper, more metallic finish.
  • Note: If you don't have the budget for a premium wet paint, the closest colour match in powder paint would be Halo — slightly darker gold, not quite brass — costing approximately 25% less than the premium option. Please call us to request this colour, as it is not listed in Halo on our website yet.
  • The element is chrome with a grey cable.

safety & compliance

  • Fully built and tested to EN442 standards and UKCA certified.
  • Heat outputs are independently verified by an external testing house to ensure accuracy.

guarantee & warranty

  • Rail: 12-year manufacturer’s warranty for long-term reassurance.
  • Element and Valve: 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.
  • Usual lifespan of a heating element is 4 to 7 years depending on use.
  • At end of life, you can simply replace the heating probe (TS1) part of this element while the controller can continue to be used, making it a cost-effective long-term solution.
