Description

Here at the heat is on, we put the knowledge of what you need directly in your hands as the homeowner, so you needn’t rely on your electrician for basic product guidance. Below you’ll find clear, expert information specific to the Terma MOA Wi-Fi heating element, helping you select the right components and ensure a smooth installation for your electric or dual fuel towel rail or radiator.

what is a heating element?

  • A heating element acts as the heat source inside an electric towel rail or radiator.
  • It works by heating the water or oil contained within the radiator, in much the same way an element heats water inside a kettle.
  • If you would like a deeper understanding, we have a dedicated technical guide — click here to read more about heating elements.

temperature control & operation

  • The Terma MOA WIFI Element offers two modes of control: internal radiator temperature regulation from 30 °C to 60 °C, or ambient room temperature control from 16 °C to 25 °C.
  • A built-in 7-day timer allows full weekly programming to suit your routine.
  • Includes a drying function, ideal for boosting heat when drying towels or laundry.
  • Internal probe lengths vary depending on the selected wattage — refer to the diagram in the image gallery.
  • Basic on/off control is available via a single button on the element itself.
  • Compliant with the Lot 20 Eco-design Directive, meeting energy efficiency requirements with adaptive control.

controls & smart operation

  • Full operational control is available via smartphone or tablet using Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • The unit can be operated either manually via buttons or remotely through the intuitive TERMA Home app (Android/iOS).
  • With the TERMA Home WiFi application, users can:
    • Set the temperature with 0.5°C precision
    • Create heating zones, manage multiple devices within each zone, and customize zone and device names
    • Program operating schedules
    • Activate drying function remotely (up to 12 hours)
    • Customise LED indicator colours
  • After 24 months of registering your MOA Wi-Fi device, continued use of the app will require a subscription.
  • No additional hub is required for connectivity.

element specifics & safety

  • 66 mm length measured from the thread down, with a 55 mm diameter clock-style face.
  • Internal probe lengths vary depending on the selected wattage — refer to the diagram in the image gallery.
  • Straight cable supplied, no plug.
  • IPx5 rated, suitable for use in bathroom environments.
  • Class 1 electrical rating.
  • Built-in frost protection prevents damage in colder conditions.
  • Overheating protection ensures safe operation at all times.
  • Supplied with a straight cable and fitted UK 3-pin plug (remove if used in a bathroom).
  • UKCA approved for compliance with UK regulations.

colour selection

  • Choose between a black or white fascia (main control screen).
  • The clamshell casing is available in a range of colours to complement your radiator or towel rail.
  • Achieve an exact colour match when pairing with a Terma radiator in the same finish.
  • Alternatively, achieve a close colour match when pairing with other Terma models or radiators/towel rails from different manufacturers.

wattage selection advice

  • Select the correct element wattage by checking the heat output of your chosen radiator in watts and choosing the closest matching element rating.
  • If the radiator output is shown only in BTUs, convert this using the formula: BTUs ÷ 3.41 = Watts.
  • Choosing a closely matched wattage helps ensure even heat distribution without overheating.

installation

  • Full installation instructions are supplied in the accompanying manual, but the following guidance is useful to review beforehand.
  • The element must never be switched on in open air — it must be fully submerged in the heating medium to operate safely. Although safety protection is built in, the element should not be powered on for testing prior to installation.
  • The element can be installed vertically or horizontally for versatile placement.
  • The supplied cable is 1.5 metres long and may be shortened or extended if required (daisy-chain extensions only).
  • The cable masking cover which covers the wire coming out of the rear of the element up to the entry point in the wall is not included and needs to be purchased separately.
  • Heating elements that have been fitted cannot be accepted for change-of-mind returns.
  • When fitting the element, always use a spanner on the metal neck. Do not apply force to the plastic head, as excessive pressure may cause cracking or damage.

electrification advice

  • Before electrifying any towel rail or radiator, always confirm with the manufacturer that the model is suitable for use with a heating element.
  • Not all towel rails or radiators are compatible, as internal design and heat circulation differ between products.
  • Installing a heating element into an unsuitable radiator may result in failure, which would not be a fault of the element itself.

dual fuel advice

  • When using this element as part of a dual fuel installation (electric operation in summer and central heating in winter), the towel rail should be bled regularly.
  • Air trapped inside the system can lead to overheating if the element operates without adequate water circulation.
  • A heating element must never be operated dry, as this can cause excessive surface temperatures and damage towels or clothing.
  • This operates on the same principle as a kettle — it should never be run without water inside.

guarantee & replacement

  • Backed by a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty for reassurance and peace of mind.
  • Typical lifespan of a heating element is 4 to 7 years depending on use.
  • At end of life, the MOA Wi-Fi heating element can be fully unscrewed and replaced as a single complete unit.
